Matthew Hull, Principal

Matthew Hull is the newly appointed Principal at James Thomson Elementary. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Education and a Master's degree in Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia.
Matthew first joined Â鶹ÊÓƵ in 2007 as a teacher. Over the years, he has managed the Transportation and Technology departments and also served as Vice-Principal at Brooks Secondary prior to becoming Principal at Henderson Elementary in 2022.
With a strong focus on student and family engagement, Matthew is eager to introduce new initiatives that will strengthen the connection between home and school. This year, he looks forward to building meaningful relationships with the students, staff, and families of James Thomson Elementary!
Courtney Leigh, Vice-Principal

Courtney Leigh holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and History and a Bachelor of Education from Vancouver Island University. She also earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Education from Queen’s University and recently completed a Master in Educational Leadership from Vancouver Island University, with a thesis focused on creating and establishing trauma-informed practices within schools.
Prior to joining Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Courtney worked at a non-profit organization as a program developer for At-Risk Youth and Families on Vancouver Island. Since joining our district in 2011, she has taught in most schools, covering a variety of grades including Kindergarten and Grade 7 at Kelly Creek, K-7 at Texada Elementary, Grade 6/7 at Westview Elementary, and Special Education at Edgehill Elementary. Most recently, she held a position as the Vice Principal at Edgehill Elementary for the past two years.
Courtney’s vision for the school year revolves around fostering strong relationships within the learning community, including students, teachers, parents, caregivers, and outside support agencies, so that every student feels valued and included. Joy and enthusiasm for learning are at the forefront of this vision, inspiring a supportive and inclusive culture that keeps children at the center.
