Mizuto Hiramatsu
From the early age of fourteen, Mizuto started learning how to take photographs with a Cannon SLR camera. He loves taking pictures of different people in different settings. He is basically self-taught from watching YouTube and Instagram. “For me photography is a way to communicate with different people and a way to make new friends.”
While attending high school in Japan, Mizuto continued to improve his photographic skills by trying different methods. “When COVID -19 started I began a live-streaming business which focused on Japanese Pop Music, high school graduation ceremonies and promotional videos for different Japanese companies.”
Mizuto is a Grade 12 international student who plans to graduate from Brooks this year.
This will be his third year of attending school in Canada. Mizuto loves living in Powell River and attending Brooks School. “The teachers here are so kind and patient with me. They provide me with a lot of opportunities to try different things. I really like Mrs. Doyle as she has taken good care of me for the past three years. Mr. Sytnick has shared his knowledge about making movies with me. As well, he has a great understanding of how different sound systems work.” When asked to make a comment about Mizuto, Mr. Sytnick responded with:” Mizuto is a student that I am especially excited to see what his future holds. I know that it will be interesting, and that he will conquer anything he dedicates himself to.”
Since being a student at Brooks, Mizuto has made many videos documenting his various activities at school and in the community. For instance, Mizuto has created videos for the International Christmas party and different videos promoting the International School Program in Powell River. Mizuto has enjoyed the many events that come with being an international student at Brooks.
After graduating from high school, Mizuto would like to study to become a pilot in Canada. He hopes to attend flight school in Victoria and eventually become an international pilot.
Mizuto enjoys living in Powell River as he likes filming the beautiful nature that this community has to offer. “I love Powell Lake because it is very beautiful, and I feel relaxed there.” Since living in Canada Mizuto has stayed with Matt Hull and his family. “Matt is amazing, he has supported me in so many ways.”
Minuto wishes that more people knew that he loves hanging out with different people and learning all about them. His advice to younger students is: “I think it is really important to communicate with other people and don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.”
When he needs to calm down, Minuto likes to relax at Second Beach where he enjoys the view.
This creative and outgoing student will leave a name for himself here at Brooks, through the friends he has made and his contribution to our school through his videos and photography.
